Top Overpowered Anime Characters

Top Overpowered Anime Characters

Anime is chock full of overpowered characters, but not all characters are as great as others. Today, we’re going to be looking at some of our picks for the best overpowered characters in all of anime, so strap in.

1: Ainz (Overlord)

It’s not often that we get to read a story from the villain’s point of view, and rarer still that that story is absolutely enthralling. That’s exactly what Overlord provides, as Ainz gets transported to a world much like and yet different from his favorite MMO, Yggdrasil. Here Ainz, along with his hoard of overpowered minions, instantly become the biggest threat on the planet.

Now, we follow Ainz’s journey as he struggles not only to understand this strange new world but as all of the nations of the world struggle to try to stand up to him. Ainz is overpowered in every sense of the word. In a world where even something like seventh tier magic is reserved for people of legend, Ainz can freely use tenth tier magic -the level of fabled Gods themselves.

The best part of a good overpowered character is seeing other people’s reactions to them being overpowered, and Overlord delivers that in spades. The big difference however is that it’s usually a hero using their overpowered nature to save the day, here, it’s people gasping in horror at a threat that nobody can stop. It’s a joy to watch.

2: Seiya (Cautious Hero)

Besides just being very overpowered, every overpowered character probably does need some kind of gimmick to them. Seiya brings with him undoubtedly one of the most fun gimmicks we’ve ever seen. It starts off as a normal Isekai, with Seiya getting summoned to save another world due to his awesome latent potential.

Except that’s where the normality ends. Seiya is cautious. No, as the title says, Seiya is overly cautious. Despite being so strong he could doubtless blow up mountains at this point, Seiya is never going to take any chances. He’s going to meticulously analyze even a simple slime from afar, after all, you never know what tricks a slime might have up their sleeve.

Besides, just because something is dead doesn’t mean it’ll stay dead. Best to throw endgame level nuclear spells at their corpse until not even their atoms remain. Just to be safe, of course. Cautious Hero gives us everything we like from an overpowered character, mixes it with a surprisingly compelling story and adds just a touch of some zany humor to give us an Isekai nobody would want to miss out on.

3: Mikey (Tokyo Revengers)

Unlike all of the other entries on this list, this one is going to be a lot more grounded. Tokyo Revengers takes place in the backplace of everyday Tokyo, where several delinquent gangs of middle schoolers all fight amongst themselves to become the biggest gang in the city.

Out of all of the delinquents in the city though, one kid stands above everyone else. That is the ‘unbeatable Mikey’. From the very start of the series, we know that Mikey is different. Despite his fearsome reputation, he both looks smaller and more innocent than just about everyone else in the entire show. This might make some people think that his reputation is all talk.

We soon find out it’s anything but. Mikey has a martial arts background, and he puts it to good use. One good kick from Mikey is more than enough to send the average person tumbling and falling. Over the course of the series, we get to see Mikey show off his strength plenty of times, and it even becomes the focal point of the whole story. All in all, Mikey is a great example of how to do a realistic overpowered character right.

4: Anos (Misfit of Demon King Academy)

That’s the exact opposite of our last entry. Anos is a demon lord who reincarnates himself into the future. Here, he finds that everything has fallen far behind the marvels he remembers thanks to the times of peace that have taken over the world. Anos is easily the strongest character from the moment he’s born.

Don’t believe me? The very first thing Anos does as a baby is make himself into a teenager. Yes, he literally makes himself go from being a baby into a teenager. Apparently, that’s just the kind fo thing you would have been able to do back when he was alive.

The absurdity doesn’t stop there. Unlike a lot of other characters who seem to never want to show their strength unless they absolutely have to, Anos will constantly flex his strength just for the fun of it. It’s a very, very refreshing change and makes for a very fun watching experience. Honestly, it gets pretty crazy. There’s no better way to sum up this character than with one of his most iconic lines.

“Did you think killing me would be enough to make me die?”

That’s it for this list, thank you for sticking around all the way through. If you want to read something similar, then check out our picks for the best overpowered characters in Manhwa in our next Post!
